It is my new fall vacation and even Sunday brunch in case I want to feel a bit more. Once it is in place, it is low-maintenance in a surprising way and the volume by the crown creates a face-lifting illusion that is simply…. flattering.
This is more tropical, but the warm flowers and golden colors come around very unexpectedly to be great early fall wedding colors, even with dresses in earthy rusts or corals.
Braid Bar-Ready Bubble Plaits
Precision meets playfulness in these thick, bubble-style braids. They are divided in a fine center line and plaited up with a symmetrical distance that give them extra width and volume. Harking back to her signatures of gentleness, every section is pulled out in order to create a 3D bubble effect that renders itself as a voluminous braid that remains both clean and polished. It already is a braid bar classic, but it falls perfectly to anyone who loves the same amount of structure as texture and who wants their braid to actually last, throughout a whole day.
Such defined braid must have grip and therefore I use KĂ©rastase Genesis Defence Thermique to add softness and proceed to spray Color Wow Style on steroids texture spray at the roots. I tie up a section, and then pull all the loops slightly outward to create even fullness.
And this was exactly what I received in a braid bar in New York before going to a concert, and it did not move. It’s great for nights out, busy days, or just feeling extra sharp and put-together. Paired with a clean white top and high-waisted denim? Pure modern magic.

Slouchy Sweater Boxer Braids
With the combination of boxer braids and chunky fall sweaters, something just hits home. These braids begin close at the crown, and hang down in coarse three strand plaits, softened down a little to wear them. It is cozy and slouchy yet still looks very athletic and autumn chic, since the braid itself is just a bit loose. It is a combination of texture and softness, which makes it work.
If I like the hair to be thin and smooth, I always apply Amika The Wizard Detangling Primer before braiding, particularly when my hair is not fine. An application of Shu Uemura Essence Absolue on the ends keeps the ends sleek without frizzes once braided.
It is the kind of style that I go to when I am going to a coffee shop or staying at home and still want to feel that I have made an effort. It is cozy, casual and ideal to layer under beanie or hoods.
Boxer braids are either sporty or sweet so this one is an ideal take on softer fall side.
Tousled Halo with Long Double Braids
It is multi-dimensional and layered stylistically; a combination of old and new. It begins at the crown with a small halo like braid then two long open braids hanging casually over the shoulders. The most outstanding thing is the dishevelled texture it is not too shiny and regulated but very clear. There’s a “woke-up-pretty” feel that keeps it wearable even on casual days. It’s elegant, but not overly done.
To get the fluffy crown lift I back comb the roots lightly and spray with R+Co Dallas Thickening Spray. The braids themselves are loosely tied to allow movement. Some strands that frame the face provide the appearance with a lived-in touch.
The fact that this one is on the nebulous border of romantic and effortless is something that I love. It looks good as a braid on first dates, early dinners, or to wander around museums, in other words, where you want to be really poetic and not pin-up-style.
The slight structure provided at the top by the crown twist helps and the pieces touching the face to frame it manage to make it flattering, which is always a plus when the climatic conditions are less accommodating and the outfit is warmer and ready to snug itself to the body.
Heart-Shaped Waterfall Crown Braid
This one’s an absolute work of art. At the sides two braids twine round to a soft heart at the back and cascade into a carved center braid. The remainder hair is left in gentle waves one can imagine the dreamy movement, the light texture and the fairytale-like effect. It isn;t exaggerated, but it is more like a kind of braid that gives the impression that one should be in a fall fairy tale with a latte in one hand and a chunky knit in another hand.
This look benefits from pre-curling the lower half with a 1.25″ wand, then separating with Kristin Ess Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray to give hold and movement. The front part requires precision and that is why I apply Oribe Fiber Groom to smooth and sculpt each twist and tuck.
Honestly? This is my favorite “special moment” braid. I used it in fall during an engagement shoot, and it was fantastic with a golden hour light. It is actually a style that declares work without crying out “updo.”
